On the side of humanity: World Red Cross Day observed in Noklak

Noklak district commemorated the World Red Cross Day under the theme “On the side of Humanity”  organised by the Indian Red Cross Society Noklak district Branch.

Speaking on the event, Bangjunglemba EAC Noklak emphasized that the day commemorates the birth of founding father, Jean Henry Dunnant marking 160 years today, adding that he was also the first recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize. He also noted that the day pays tribute  to the Red Cross Society volunteers for their relentless service for people’s needs in terms  of protection, assistance, health care and social aid. The EAC stated that the celebration reflects the tireless efforts of the Red Cross Movement, which has been ‘On the side of Humanity’ for over a century. Further, he extended his appreciation to the Indian Red Cross Society Noklak for their service through various assistance in the district in times of needs. He noted that the remarkable team not only provided in terms of materials to the affected victims  but uplifted their mental spirit as well.

While celebrating the World Red Cross day, Bangjunglemba EAC called on everyone to join the mission to serve humanity with a special encouragement to the youths to ensure more enrollment in the Red Cross Society. He urged upon the youths to teach each other the basics of first aid with the aim of volunteering their service for their own community in times of assistance.

P Bashim, Treasurer, IRCS Noklak Branch briefly narrated the birth of Red Cross Society in Noklak how after the tragic loss  of three villages from Burma in 1992 led 1500 refugees to Noklak. A team led by W Chuba, former KTC president requested the then SC Jamir Government for assistance, following which five journalists were sent from India to cover the incident.

A Penglang, Pastor, NTBC & Managing committee IRCS emphasized on the context from the Bible verse Mathew 5:13 calling the humanitarian act as a noble duty. He further encouraged the society to be like the ‘salt and light’.

Imkong, President, 11 ward & Managing Committee IRCS Noklak, in his short speech, shared his personal experience on encountering the Red Cross Society in his early days of teaching in a school in his village. He briefed on the impact of Red Cross Society on the youths in his village. He lauded the Noklak Branch for receiving an award and representing the state in UP.

As part of the celebration, Capt.(Dr), Uddhav Naresh, 14 Assam Rifles Noklak along with the Junior Red Cross Society, Noklak Branch performed a First Aid Demonstration. An obituary was dedicated to one of the late members of the Red Cross Society, followed by observance of National Anthem by the attendees.

Earlier, the program was chaired by Joseph KV, Headmaster, Holy Angels School and Managing Committee IRCS Noklak Branch. An invocation prayer was pronounced by Yamtsumong, Deacon, NTBC, while the welcome address delivered by Lasang Khiamniungan, Hon’y Secretary,  IRCS Noklak Branch.

Special numbers were presented by Taang S, Junior Red Cross Society, Noklak Branch, and Chiutang, Junior Red Cross Society, Nolak Branch, while the vote of thanks was proposed by Solomon, Office Assistant, IRCS, Noklak Branch, and benediction by Rev. Chellia, former Pastor, NTBC.
