In an unfortunate incident, a woman died in a landslide accident at Chi Village, Papong ward, in the outskirt of Mon Town. The tragic incident happened approximately between 2:15-2:30pm on 6 September.

According to sources, the victim and her three friends were returning from the fields when the narrow footpath through which they were passing by collapsed. The other three persons managed to escape while the victim who was walking behind them got covered up by the sliding mud. Left in shock, the other three then called their parents to report the accident.

The youths of the village, relatives and PS personnel arrived for rescue in one and a half hours. However, the woman who was buried under the mud was already dead by the time she was pulled out.

The woman’s body was handed over to the family after legal formalities were completed. The victim was said to be 24 years old.
