Oriental College Cultural cum Literary & Sports Meet: Dr Sothu urges students to embark on journey of self-discovery

Kohima: Event aims to foster creativity, teamwork and sportsmanship among students

The Cultural cum Literary & Annual Sports Meet 2024 of Oriental College Kohima kicked off today with Dr Hovithal Sothu, Project Director, Task Force for Music and Arts (TaFMA) as the Special Guest for the Opening Ceremony. The event which runs from 4th to 9th October 2024 aims to foster creativity, teamwork and sportsmanship among students.

In his address, Dr. Sothu emphasized the significance of embracing and respecting one’s own culture and stated, “By loving and respecting your own culture, you learn to respect others as well.” He also encouraged students to not only excel academically but also to strive for excellence beyond the classroom.

He urged the students to embark on a journey of self-discovery, to search within themselves, and uncover their unique talents and hone them. By doing this, he added that society will no longer have mediocre individuals, but rather individuals who are the best in their respective fields. Dr. Sothu concluded by motivating the students to aim to be “Number One” in whatever they pursue.

The program was chaired by Nito Khulu, Assistant Professor, Department of Political Science. Vikeyienuo Rutsa, Assistant Professor, Department of Tenyidie pronounced the invocation. Welcome Address was delivered by Dr. Khriereizhünuo Dzüvichü, Principal, Oriental College. A special performance was witnessed from the Eastern Cultural Troop and vote of thanks was expressed by Akhreino Chietsu, Assistant Professor, Department of English.
