Orientation-cum-awareness programme on hygienic meat production held at Wokha

The District Administration, Veterinary Department, and Wokha Town Council jointly organized an orientation-cum-awareness programme on hygienic meat production and consumption at the DC’s Conference Hall, Wokha on May 15.

ADC and Executive Officer, Wokha Town Council, Renbomo Ezung, addressed the gathering and spoke on the importance of sanitation and environmental hygiene. He highlighted the health risks posed by unhygienic practices and stressed the need for proper equipment and materials for butchers. He further emphasized that strict monitoring would be carried out across Wokha Town, and violators would be penalized as per the law.

Councillor, Mhao Ngullie also spoke on the vital importance of hygienic meat production and the need for awareness creation among butchers in Wokha Town.

Dr Yanben M Kikon, VAS/FM PMC, Wokha, delivered a detailed presentation covering sources of meat contamination, preventive measures, and treatment of animals. He explained how to maintain a hygienic environment, proper disposal methods, and ways to control the spread of infections. He elaborated on diseases that can spread from animals to humans and vice versa, highlighting the importance of protective equipment and periodic health check-ups for butchers to ensure safety.

The session concluded with an interactive discussion, during which participants raised questions and received clarifications. Shopkeepers, wholesalers, and retailers dealing in pork, beef, fish, and chicken within the jurisdiction of Wokha Town Council attended the programme.
