The Department of Public Health Engineering Department (PHED), Nagaland, has said that Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) covers only villages and that it is an ongoing scheme implemented by the respective Water and Sanitation (WATSAN) committees of the villages across the State.
In response to the statement by the Lotha Hoho that claimed that the JJM and the Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM) schemes in the district were “complete failures”, the PHED stated in a post on X platform that all towns and municipal areas in Nagaland do not fall under JJM.
In another post, the Department stated, “Operation & maintenance of the assets created are handed over to village committees and WATSAN as per Ministry guidelines. Community partners are mandated & not PHE for O&M (Operations and Maintenance) as per JJM guidelines.”
The Lotha Hoho had asked the Enquiry Committee to prepare its report based on the “actual ground reality”. The Committee was set up by the Government of Nagaland on 19 December 2024 to investigate the allegations of misappropriation of ₹1649.35 Crores under JJM in Nagaland made by the Nagaland Transparency Public Rights Advocacy and Direct Action Organization (NTPRADAO).
The Committee has been directed to submit its report within 45 days (2nd February 2025) from the issue of the notification.
