Minister for Higher Education & Tourism, Temjen Imna Along on Thursday inaugurated the new academic building of Phek Government College, constructed under Rashtriya Uchaatar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA) within the college premises.
Speaking on the occasion, the Minister said termed it a “momentous day” for the college to have a new academic building and acknowledged that every small step is a big step towards progress.
He expressed appreciation for the progress and development of the college over the past few years, and highlighted on how one’s surroundings resonate with one’s identity. He further added that taking honest responsibility and stewardship is the new mantra for a transformed educational system in Nagaland.
He urged that the students and the faculty both work towards being resourceful and contribute in every field to the state, and India at large.
Additional Secretary, Government of Nagaland and SPD, PM-USHA, Sentiyanger Pongen emphasized the transformative role of PM-USHA (Pradhan Mantri Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan) in strengthening higher education infrastructure in the state. He noted that improved facilities have enhanced the quality of learning, supported the implementation of NEP 2020, and empowered government colleges to progress and compete effectively.

Stressing that educational infrastructure is a valuable public asset, he called upon citizens and stakeholders to nurture, monitor, and safeguard development projects, reporting any discrepancies when necessary.
Concluding his speech, he urged everyone to work together towards building a better future and leaving a meaningful legacy for future generations.
Earlier, the dedicatory prayer was invoked by Vepreta Lasuh, Pastor, Bible Hill Baptist Church, Phek Town. Dr K Zumomo Ovung presented the welcome address greeting the Chief Guest and all the dignitaries, staff and students. He elucidated and hoped for the new building to be a symbol of commitment which will provide a better learning environment and inspire students to grow and excel in every field.
He urged the college staff and students to work together and make it a place of knowledge, creativity and excellence.
The programme ended with the Vote of Thanks from Shepalu Suyie, Vice Princial, Phek Government College.
