Plane grounded in France over suspicions of human trafficking lands in Mumbai

Mumbai: Indian Embassy thanks French Govt and Valtry Airport for quick resolution and enabling Indian passengers to return home

The aircraft that was grounded in France’s Valtry Airport, 150 km from Paris, has landed in Mumbai on Tuesday morning with 276 passengers. The chartered plane operated by a Romanian company carrying mostly Indian citizens was grounded in France on 22nd December 2023 over suspicion of human trafficking. The plane had taken off from Fujairah in United Arab Emirates with 303 passengers and was on its way to Nicaragua in South America.

According to BBC, 25 people including two minors remained in France after applying for asylum while two suspected traffickers were detained. It also said that most of the passengers were believed to be Indian citizens working in the UAE while a third of them were reportedly from Gujarat.

On Christmas Day, the Indian Mission in France had thanked the French Government and Valtry Airport “for quick resolution of the situation enabling Indian passengers to return home & hospitality. Also for working closely with embassy team, present throughout at the site to ensure welfare and smooth & safe return.”
