The Paris Olympics also known as the Games of the XXXIII Olympiad is hosted every four years. The 2024 Summer Olympics commenced on July 26, 2024 and is scheduled to continue till August 11, 2024 held at the Paris’s largest stadium, Stade de France, amongst other 35 venues, under the theme, ‘Games Wide Open.’
A total of 206 Olympic national teams is said to participate in the Paris Olympics 2024 with India being represented by 117 across 16 different disciplines. Additionally, a total of 10,500 athletes representing 206 countries are competing in this year’s Olympics. Further, the athletes will be competing for 329 gold medals across 32 sports.

The opening ceremony was hosted at the Seine River, whereby, the athletes marked their entrance by sailing through the river entering into the Olympic Games. The Indian contingent was led by Two-time Olympic medallist shuttler, PV Sindhu and five-time Olympian, Sharath Kamal.
As the international sport kick-starts, Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended his warm wishes to the Indian contingent in the Paris Olympics on July 26, 2024. He called every athlete India’s pride and wished them success to perform their best at the 33rd edition of the international sporting event which takes place every four year.
On the social media platform X, Modi stated, “As the Paris #Olympics commences, my best wishes to the Indian contingent. Every athlete is India’s pride. May they all shine and embody the true spirit of sportsmanship, inspiring us with their exceptional performances. #Paris2024”
The games range from archery, artistic gymnastics, badminton, basketball, beach volleyball, boxing, cycling mountain bike, cycling road, diving, equestrian, fencing, football, handball, hockey, marathon swimming, rhythmic gymnastics, shooting, table tennis, taekwondo, weightlifting, wrestling amongst others.
