The Department of Health and Family Welfare, Government of Nagaland, has notified that as part of the National Immunization Day, Polio Day will be held on 3rd March 2024 (Sunday) in all the districts. In this regard, the Department has urged all parents and caregivers to take their children below 5 years of age to the Polio Booths to receive the Two Drops of Polio vaccine.
Booth Day is on 3rd March 2024, 8:00 am to 3:00 pm.
Dr Imkongtemsu Longchar, State Immunization Officer, has cautioned that India is polio free, but it still exists in few countries and it may come back. Therefore, all children below 5 must be administered TWO DROPS of the oral polio vaccine, irrespective of previous immunization status, to ensure the child’s complete protection, he added.

The Department informed that post the administration of the oral polio vaccine, the child’s finger will be marked with ink for the health workers to understand the coverage. However, it also assured Parents and caregivers that the ink used for the finger marking in the child is safe from any toxicity.
To avail the service and visit the polio booth for the uptake of services on Polio Day, parents can contact the health workers, ASHA and AWWs in their respective areas for further information.
Further, to make the day a success H&FW has sought the support of allied departments, Faith Based Organizations (FBOs), Civil Society Organizations (SOs), Village Council Chairperson and members, Women leaders and members of IMA, IAP, IDA, Rotary, Lions, etc from all districts of Nagaland in making the upcoming National Immunization Day of Polio on Sunday a success.
“We have to ensure that all children under 5 years of age in your family or community to take up the TWO DROPS of oral polio vaccine,” the Department said.
