Advisor for Airways and Railways, A Pongshi Phom visited Dimapur Railway Station and Dimapur Airport on July 20 to review the progress of ongoing infrastructure projects and discuss issues requiring coordinated intervention for their development.
Earlier in the day, the Advisor chaired a review meeting at Dimapur Railway Station on matters relating to the proposed Modern Railway Station under Phase-I. During the meeting, he reviewed the progress of the ongoing construction works and developmental activities and took stock of issues requiring attention. He was accompanied by Additional Secretary, AIR Cell, Transport Department, Thsuvisie Phoji, NCS; Deputy Commissioner, Dimapur, Dr Tinojongshi Chang, NCS; Officer on Special Duty (OSD), Transport Department (AIR Cell), M Ababe Ezung; Railway officials and from district administration.
Later, the Advisor visited Dimapur Airport, where he held a review meeting with officials of the Airports Authority of India (AAI) to assess the status of the airport’s development and deliberate on issues affecting its expansion. The meeting was attended by Airport Director, Airports Authority of India, Dimapur Airport, Moa Pongen, along with officials of AAI and the State Government.
Addressing the officials, Pongshi Phom said that the purpose of his visit was to understand the existing issues firsthand and explore ways in which the State Government could extend its support. Stating that Nagaland has only one airport, he emphasized the need for the State Government and the Airports Authority of India to work hand in hand to address the challenges and expedite the airport’s development.

The Advisor said he had come to understand the issues on the ground, hear suggestions from all stakeholders and identify practical solutions for the way forward. He assured that the concerns and suggestions raised during the meeting would be examined and taken up with the concerned authorities for necessary follow-up.
During the meeting, APD, AAI, Dimapur Airport, Moa Pongen presented a brief history of Dimapur Airport and highlighted the status of its ongoing development. He sought the continued support of the State Government in resolving the pending land issue and extending assistance in meeting the basic requirements necessary for the airport’s expansion.
The meeting also deliberated on issues relating to land acquisition, waterlogging, garbage disposal, runway development and the overall development of the airport. Suggestions were exchanged on addressing the existing challenges and ensuring better coordination among the concerned departments to facilitate the airport’s development.
