Prof. A. Lanunungsang Ao Biennial Lecture Series launched at NEISSR

The North East Institute of Social Sciences and Research (NEISSR), Peace Centre, 7th Mile, Chümoukedima, Nagaland, launched the Prof. A. Lanunungsang Ao Biennial Lecture Series in honour of the esteemed academician and social reformer, and Rtd Pro-Vice Chancellor of Nagaland University

The event was graced by the presence of family members and kins of Professor Ao, along with distinguished guests, faculty, and students.

Dr. Fr. Anto, Principal of NEISSR, delivered the welcome address, emphasizing the historical significance of the event for the Catholic Church in Nagaland and NEISSR. He highlighted Prof. Ao’s remarkable contributions in introducing Social Work education at Nagaland University and his transformative impact on addressing social issues.

Expressing gratitude to the family, Fr. Anto acknowledged Prof. A. L. Ao’s vision for higher education in Nagaland and urged that his legacy continue to inspire future generations. He affirmed that the academic legacy of Prof. Ao is cherished by the people of Nagaland, particularly at NEISSR.

Mapumenla Jamir, the wife of Prof. A. Lanunungsang Ao, expressed her heartfelt gratitude to NEISSR and Peace Channel for honouring her husband’s contributions. Er. Moamanen Imchen, SDO, Power Department, Government of Nagaland, highlighted the significance of Prof. Ao’s lifelong contributions to the people. He expressed deep appreciation to NEISSR and Peace Channel for recognizing pioneers like his father, who laid the foundation for future generations. He stated that Prof. A.L. Ao’s dedication lives on through action, ideas, and the pursuit of peace and knowledge. Quoting his father’s belief that peace is not merely the absence of conflict but the presence of understanding, reconciliation, and action, Er. Imchen commended NEISSR as a torchbearer for peace and reconciliation through research and social service.

He urged Social Work trainees to become peacebuilders and carry forward this mission in their future endeavors. Prof. Rosaline Jamir, Retired Professor, Department of English, NIT Nagaland, shared insights into the life, contributions, a’d initiatives of Prof. A. Lanunungsang Ao. She encouraged the trainees to work hard and dream big, regardless of their background. She emphasized that NEISSR is a unique institution and reminded students that peace is a journey and happiness is a destination.

The program began with an invocation by Dr. Fr. Mathew Thuniampral, Governing Board Member, NEISSR and concluded with a dedication ceremony prayer led by Rev. Fr. Chacko Karinthayil, Governing Board Member, NEISSR and vote of thanks delivered by Rev. Fr. G.L. Khing, Vice Principal and Administrator, NEISSR. The program was chaired by Apulo Sumi, an MSW trainee at NEISSR. The launch of the Prof. A. Lanunungsang Ao Biennial Lecture Series marks a significant milestone in honouring pioneers of education and social transformation in Nagaland. The series aims to inspire intellectual discourse and uphold the values of peace, reconciliation, and social service championed by Prof. A.L. Ao.
