The Phüsachodümi Students’ Union Kohima (PSUK) organised the 29th General Session cum Freshers’ Day with Nagaland’s Advisor for CAWD and Taxes, Government of Nagaland, Kudecho Khamo, as the Guest Speaker on September 28.
The event was held at the Auditorium Hall of Baptist High, Kohima.
Addressing the event, Khamo encouraged the students to strive for success and become assets to their village, church, and society. He urged them to prepare for leadership in their future professions by learning well.
He observed that many people have gained much knowledge, both essential and non-essential and many have become directionless. He cautioned that there is knowledge that can mislead and misguide, advising students to think rationally and not be easily swayed by social media.
Highlighting the competitive and professional world, he stressed the importance of focus and specialization. He also spoke about the cultural influence from other countries, noting how food and clothing have been adopted, but the hard-working ethos has not been fully embraced. He emphasized that learning alone is useless unless put into practice.
Addressing the frustration and obsession with government jobs, Khamo encouraged students to change this attitude, reminding them that not everyone can start big in business. He advised them to be mindful of their time and have a vision for their lives. Khamo pointed out the dangers of impatience, particularly among Nagas, and advised the students to live prayerfully, with honesty and integrity.

Expressing concern about the identity crisis facing society, he exhorted the students to stand firm in their culture, unmoved by money and external pressures. He also reiterated the importance of maintaining a strong Christian identity besides the culture of honesty, hard work, and prayer.
Ciefüzü Cürhah, a public leader, also delivered a speech, urging the students to respect elders, fellow human beings, and leaders. He encouraged them to make an effort to learn their mother tongue and to be humble. He further stated that politics is not about enmity, but about electing leaders with the people’s mandate, and advised the village and younger generation not to politicize issues or indulge in groupism.
Meanwhile, Bodüve Yhobüh, who cleared the Nagaland Public Service Commission (NPSC) civil service examination as Secretariat Assistant (SA), advised the students to set clear goals, remain consistent, and be willing to make sacrifices.
In his presidential address, Zünietso Khamo, President of PSUK, congratulated the successful students and urged them to set clear visions for the future. He also encouraged the students to look beyond government jobs and explore entrepreneurial opportunities.
Veluvoyi Khamo presented the General Secretary’s report, highlighting the union’s activities, while a speech on behalf of the freshers was delivered by Veshevoyi Theluo. A special song was presented by Ruvelü Chuzho, and a folk song was performed by Phüsachodu Union Kohima (PUK) officials. Detolü Sazo, Vice-President of PSUK, delivered the vote of thanks.
The program was compered by Kuvethi Chuzho and Sekhotolü Kotso, with an invocation prayer offered by Vedahülü Thüluo and a benediction by Khriesaduyi Yhobüh.
During the event, PSUK also honored its members who successfully completed their Ph.D. and cleared competitive examinations.
A new team for the 2024-25 tenure was also introduced by Khusacho Cürhah Convenor of the Advisory Board and search committee. Veluvoyi Khamo will lead PSUK as President, Vezhorayi Kotso as Vice-President, Zhokhohu Chuzho as General Secretary.
