Rainfall activity is expected to increase across Nagaland from August 26, with localized thunderstorms, lightning and light to moderate rain likely at scattered locations through August 29, the Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA) said in its latest district-wise weather outlook.

On August 26, thunderstorms and lightning accompanied by light to moderate rainfall are expected at scattered locations, particularly in Longleng, Mokokchung, Peren, Phek, Tseminyu, Tuensang and Wokha, with similar weather activity likely in several other districts.

Rainfall is expected to become more widespread on August 27. Light to moderate rain is likely at most places in Longleng, Peren, Tseminyu and Tuensang, while thunderstorms and lightning accompanied by rain are forecast in several other parts of the State.

The unsettled weather is likely to continue on August 28, with localized thunderstorms, lightning and light to moderate rain at scattered locations, while light rain may occur at a few places elsewhere.

On August 29, rainfall activity is expected to persist in several districts, including Longleng, Mokokchung, Mon, Peren, Tuensang and Zunheboto, with localized thunderstorms, lightning and light to moderate rain likely at scattered locations.

According to the five-day rolling rainfall probability for August 25–29, Peren is expected to record the highest cumulative rainfall at 93.83 mm, followed by Mokokchung at 88.83 mm and Longleng at 83.98 mm. Tuensang is likely to receive 64.99 mm, Tseminyu 63.58 mm, Wokha 58.38 mm, Phek 52.89 mm, Mon 51.53 mm and Dimapur 51.51 mm. Kohima is expected to receive around 43.96 mm, while comparatively lower rainfall is forecast for the remaining districts.

The NSDMA advised the public to avoid taking shelter under isolated trees or near electric poles during thunderstorms and to exercise caution while travelling amid rain and reduced visibility.

Motorists have been urged to take extra care along vulnerable and landslide-prone stretches. The public has also been advised to regularly monitor weather updates through the Safer Nagaland mobile application and the NSDMA Weather Portal and follow official advisories.
