The Indian Red Cross Society, Wokha district branch observed World Red Cross Day at the Deputy Commissioner’s Conference Hall, Wokha on Monday under the theme “Everything we do comes from the Heart”.
Additional Deputy Commissioner Wokha, K. Furhesie Nyuwi, NCS, speaking as the special guest of the program, emphasised on three points on the ‘essence’ of the Red Cross Movement. He stated that compassion is the foundation of the Red Cross and that the selfless acts of its volunteers encourage others to join the noble society.
Nyuwi also said that the Red Cross acts as ‘Hope’ during distress and provides assistance not only materially but beyond that. Lastly, he stated that the volunteers are the ambassadors of kindness, empathy and selflessness.
He also advised that people should come together and honour the unwavering dedication of Red Cross Society.
Speaking on the theme, T Penthungo Lotha, Principal Bailey Baptist College, Wokha said that we should all remember the values of compassion and celebrate it making little efforts to assist the needs of the community.
On the occasion, Secretary, Red Cross Society, Dr K Z Ovung, handed relief materials to nine beneficiaries. The program was chaired by Medongunuo Ngone.
