With the union home ministries most appreciated gesture of putting things into motion to relocate the Assam Rifles infrastructure in the heart of Aizawl city as announced on the 15th of March, at an official function held at Sector 23 HQ Assam Rifles, Khatla, Aizawl in the presence of honorable  Union Home Minister Shri Amit Shah, to the outskirts some 15 kms away. For Mizoram formerly referred to as Lushai hills has a congested capital just like every other hill state.

It gives hope that this development at Aizawl will be replicated for Kohima as well with the cooperation of the paramilitary organisation and the go-ahead of the MHA to relocate the IGAR barracks and the AR battalion at D’Block, Kohima town to a more favourable location.

Now it depends upon the efforts of the GoN and the diplomacy of CSOs in the district and Nagaland in general to impress upon the centre and the paramilitary force born in 1835 as ‘Cachar Levy’ to shift as early as possible in the interest of all.

An expensive and difficult task but not impossible. Especially with the AR already having acquired a sizable area of land not far from the capital city under D’Khel, Kohima village jurisdiction.

Keeping fingers crossed that with the dynamic and public friendly Major General Vikas Lakhera as the DGAR, the same will be announced soon for Kohima as well.
