Removal of unauthorised structures ‘by use of force’ along NH 2 in Wokha from 1 February

Wokha: TR Zeliang gives assurance in December that work will be done as per DPR

The removal of unauthorised structures on compensated land along the National Highway 2, from Km 72,400 to Km 83,000, under Wokha will begin on 1st February 2024, the Deputy Commissioner has informed in a notification.

The DC stated that the unauthorized structures will be removed “by use of force” starting 7:00 am on Thursday. In this regard, the DC informed all concerned to be present.

Since May 2023, the Wokha Village Youth Organisation has been persistently following with the authorities to construct the highway as per the detailed project report (DPR). The organisation had even proposed to impose indefinite bandh on the road due to the “lack of seriousness” of the authorities to rectify the discrepancies.

In June 2023, the Wokha District Administration and PWD (NH) carried out an eviction drive and removed structures encroaching the highway.

On 4th December 2023, Deputy Chief Minister TR Zeliang inspected the said stretch of the highway in Wokha and asserted that whatever structures have been constructed on compensated land must be removed and unused compensated land should be kept for future use. He also assured that he will see that the work is done as per the specific agreement inserted in the DPR.
