The Regional Meteorological Centre Guwahati, Indian Meteorological Department, has on Wednesday predicted thunderstorm and lightning are very likely to occur in the Northeast States in the coming days till 19th May 2024.
According to its press release, the cyclonic circulation over southwest Bangladesh now lies over Assam and neighbourhood at 0.9 km above mean sea level and a trough in westerlies runs roughly along long. 88°E to the north of lat. 21°N at 3.1 km above mean sea level.

15th May 2024: The weather office said that light to moderate rain is very likely to occur at many places over Arunachal Pradesh and light rain is very likely to occur at isolated places over Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura. Hot and Humid weather conditions likely to prevail over Assam, Meghalaya and Tripura. It also warns of thunderstorm and lightning at isolated places over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Meghalaya.
16th May: Light to moderate rain is very likely to occur at many places over Arunachal Pradesh, at a few places over Assam and Meghalaya and light rain is very likely to occur at isolated places over Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura, the press release stated. Hot and Humid weather conditions likely to prevail over Assam, Meghalaya & Tripura.
RMC Guwahati warned of thunderstorm and lightning at isolated places over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura and heavy rain at isolated places over Arunachal Pradesh.
17th May: Light to moderate rain is very likely to occur at most places over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Meghalaya and at a few places over Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura, it stated. The centre also cautioned about 1) Thunderstorm and lightning at isolated places over Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura. 2) Thunderstorm and lightning with gusty wind speed 40-50 kmph at isolated places over Assam and Meghalaya. 3) Heavy rain at isolated places over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Meghalaya.
18th May: RMC Guwahati forecasted light to moderate rain to occur at most places over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Meghalaya and at a few places over Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura.
It also warned of 1) Thunderstorm and lightning at isolated places over Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura. 2) Thunderstorm and lightning with gusty wind speed 30-40 kmph to occur at isolated places over Assam and Meghalaya. 3) Heavy rain is very likely to occur at isolated places over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Meghalaya.
19th May: Light to moderate rain is very likely to occur at most places over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Meghalaya and at a few places over Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura, the weather office said.
