The Rising People’s Party has on Friday said that it is “outrageous” that Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma is blaming a “particular religion” for the losses suffered by the North-East Democratic Alliance’s (NEDA) in Nagaland, Meghalaya and Manipur in recently concluded Lok Sabha election.

The RPP accused Sarma of berating Christians at every given chance and of being “too arrogant to admit that the common people, whether Christians, Hindus, or Muslims, are intelligent enough to vote for the party of their choice.” It claimed that the Assam CM “does not want to admit that the Hindu Meiteis in their anger voted for Congress because Prime Minister Modi refused to even acknowledge that violence was and is happening in Manipur.”

Further claiming that Sarma has “time and again lowered the dignity of the Chief Minister’s office with his bullying attitude”, the RPP expressed that perhaps the chief ministers of Nagaland and Meghalaya could “breathe easy since Mr. Sarma’s overbearing attitude is now likely to tone down.”

Moreover, the Rising People’s Party stated that parties blaming religious leaders for Congress’ win in Nagaland insult the intelligence of the voters.
