The Rising People’s Party (RPP) has expressed strong disappointment over the Nagaland Government’s recent recruitment notification for 1,176 police constable posts, alleging that it discriminates against the State’s non-Naga indigenous tribes and reflects a deeper systemic bias in policy-making.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the RPP said it welcomed the government’s move to open the recruitment process through an “Open Rally,” but criticized the eligibility criteria that restrict applications only to candidates belonging to the Indigenous Naga Tribes of Nagaland.

“This omission of non-Naga Indigenous Tribes of the state from job opportunities reflects poorly upon the policy makers of the state. The omission is part of the greater malaise related to quota distribution in the state,” it stated.

The RPP said everyone has an opinion regarding the Backward quota in the state in terms of review, revocation, suspension, dilution etc, but only few speak out for the inclusion of the most marginalized communities such as the non-Naga Indigenous inhabitants of the state, who deserve the Backward Quota the most.

The party urged the state Government to see that the politics of the majority do not victimize the livelihood and the dignity of the non-Naga tribal minorities of the state.
