Second nationwide registration campaign for platform and gig workers from May 20-30

The Department of Labour, Government of Nagaland in collaboration with the District Administration of the various districts will be organizing the Second Round Special Nationwide Registration Campaign to Register Platform and Gig workers on e-Shram Portal from May 20-30, 2025.

As per Niti Aayog, gig workforce in India is projected to exceed 1 crore in 2024-25 and reach 2.35 crore by 2029-30, informed a press release issued by the Labour Commissioner, Nagaland.

Recognizing the need to extend social protection to this segment, the Union Budget 2025-26 announced the registration of platform workers on e-Shram, issuance of ID cards, and coverage under Ayushman Bharat-PMJAY and the first special nationwide registration campaign was launched nationwide from April 7 to 17, 2025.

Gig workers are those workers engaged in hourly or part-time jobs in everything from catering events to software development and platform workers implies those working for organisation providing specific services using online or digital platform or delivery agents.

This campaign is a crucial step towards providing formal recognition and comprehensive health coverage under the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY).

The key provisions of the Campaign include registration of gig and platform workers on the e-Shram portal; Issuance of official identity cards; Access to AB-PMJAY, offering Rs. 5 lakh annual health cover per family across 31,000+ empanelled hospitals.

During the 10-day drive, on-ground registration camps will be facilitated in all districts and sub-division levels, in coordination with field functionaries and platform companies.
