Section 144 Cr.PC imposed in Dimapur, Chümoukedima, Niuland from 05:00 pm today

Dimapur: Any individual/ group found in contravention of order liable for punitive action

To ensure peaceful conduct of the elections to Urban Local Bodies Election on 26th June 2024, the Commissioner of Police, Dimapur, Kevithuto Sophie (IPS), has announced the following restrictions, under Section 144 Cr.PC (Code of Criminal Procedure, 1973) (2 of 1974) on the following activities.

These restrictions will be effective in Dimapur, Chümoukedima and Niuland from 05:00 PM of 25the June till the 07:00 PM of 27th June 2024.

  1. Assembly in group of 5 (five) or more people in public places within the jurisdiction of DMC/EDTC/CTC/MTC/NTC except within the 100 meter perimeter of the polling station during the scheduled polling period.
  2. Movement of person/s from one ward to another or from adjoining villages to Municipal/Town Council jurisdictions on the day of poll.
  3. Hold and attend any public meeting, procession or any unlawful assembly in connection with election; or
  4. Display to the public any election matter by means of any print/ electronic media or other similar apparatus; or
  5. Propagate any election matter thereto, in any polling area; intended or calculated to influence or affect the result of election.
  6. Carrying of lethal weapons and firearms in public places including lathis, machete/dao, daggers, sticks, spears, swords, catapult etc.
  7. Carrying of any kind of inflammable objects which may endanger public life and property.
  8. Use of PA system in any public places or near the polling station so as to cause public annoyance or disturbance.

Further, any individual/ group found in contravention of this order shall be liable for punitive action Under Section 188 of Indian Penal Code and the Nagaland Municipal Act 2023, the Police Commissioner has cautioned.
