A Sepak Takraw Coaching Camp and Tournament for Girl Children was held at the Wokha Local Ground on 18 February 2025 to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao initiative. The five-day event is being organised by the Wokha District Administration, Department of Social Welfare, and District Hub for Empowerment of Women under Mission Shakti, in convergence with the District Sports Office, Wokha.

Speaking on the occasion, Vineet Kumar (IAS), Deputy Commissioner of Wokha highlighted the growing opportunities for young participants to pursue sports as both a career and a profession, a privilege that was not available to previous generations.

He expressed delight at the excellent turnout of young participants for the event and emphasised the importance of dedication and persistence in any career, especially in sports.  Noting that while there are many athletes in the state and country, only a few make it to the national or international level, the DC encouraged the participants to embrace the opportunity to train with qualified coaches and reminded them that success requires not only passion but also hard work and resilience in the face of challenges.

In his speech, Kumar also thanked the coaches, who had travelled from Dimapur, and commended the efforts of coaches and senior players who had played the sport in the past when there were limited facilities and resources.

Libemo Jami, District Sports Officer, Wokha, expressed his joy at the large number of participants (83 students) from various schools across Wokha taking part in the coaching camp. He mentioned that the camp would run for five days, providing the participants with an invaluable opportunity to learn from experienced coaches.

The coaching staff includes Puleno Neikha, the State Sepak Takraw Coach and the first woman from Nagaland to participate in the Asian Games, along with Hopson, one of the senior-most Sepak Takraw players in Nagaland, and national players Lhangti and Wantai H.

The programme was chaired by Merithung Lotha (Gender Specialist, DHEW), Welcome Address by the Chairperson, Introductory Address by Libemo Jami, DSO, Wokha and Vote of Thanks by Thungchibemo Humstoe.
