The Chanka Colony Women Council, Wokha Town, marked 25 years of service and solidarity with a Silver Jubilee celebration held on January 9 at the residence of Dr Zubon Humtsoe. Centred on the theme “Women Who Inspire Change,” the programme reflected on the journey, resilience and enduring contribution of women in shaping families and community life.
Addressing the gathering, Ward 10 Councillor, Thungchano Kikon spoke on the central role of women in society, describing them as the backbone of both family and community. She highlighted the influence of mothers in nurturing children with values, discipline and compassion, stating that meaningful social change begins at home. Calling upon women to remain united and proactive, she encouraged them to continue contributing positively towards social harmony and development.
Delivering her message on the occasion of the Jubilee and the New Year, Lotha Eloe Hoho President, Thungbeni Ngullie underlined the cultural significance of women and their responsibility in preserving traditions and moral values. She expressed gratitude to Dr Zubon Humtsoe for hosting the event, noting the absence of a community hall in the colony. She also urged ward councillors to continue their dedicated service to the people.
Reflecting on contemporary challenges, Ngullie addressed the growing influence of mobile phones on the younger generation. While acknowledging their usefulness in learning and communication, she cautioned that misuse could negatively affect behaviour, discipline and cultural values.
Emphasizing the role of parents and elders, she called for responsible guidance to ensure balanced use of technology.

Ngullie further commended the Chanka Colony Women Council for its unity and teamwork, which has sustained the organization for a quarter of a century. Paying tribute to former members, she acknowledged their vision and commitment, stating that the Council’s foundation was laid by their dedication and perseverance.
The Jubilee programme was chaired by CCWC President Nzanrhoni Yanthan. Invocation was offered by Shumbeni Tsopoe, Deaconess, PBC, followed by a welcome address. A moment of silence in remembrance of departed members was led by Mhalo W. Kikon, while N Yilano Tungoe presented highlights on the formation of the Council. Emilo Tungoe offered the prayer for blessings.
The release of the Jubilee souvenir by Thungbeni Ngullie marked a key moment of the celebration, followed by felicitation.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Nribeni Humtsoe, General Secretary of the Chanka Colony Women Council.
