The Seyochung Village Students’ Union (SVSU), in collaboration with Government High School Seyochung Village, organized a cleanliness drive at Singtra Valley on April 16.
Students from the school actively participated by picking up plastic and other waste materials from the valley. All collected waste was properly disposed of at the designated location.
After the drive, a short program was held where SVSU President Longtili C Sangtam thanked the students and school authorities for their support and participation. He also conducted a short awareness speech on the harmful effects of plastic on the environment.
During the program, the President officially declared Singtra Valley a Plastic-Free Zone. He announced a ban on single-use plastics such as straws, plastic plates, cups, carry bags, and water bottles. People are encouraged to use alternatives like cloth or jute bags, paper straws, and reusable containers and bottles.
To support this initiative, the union will: Install separate bins for biodegradable and non-biodegradable waste; promote composting of organic waste; display posters promoting plastic-free alternatives.
