Jotsoma: BRTF facing difficulties to keep road motorable due to shortage of machinery

Six ‘Stone Quarry Enthusiasts’ from Jostoma Village, comprising of owners of stone quarries assisted from Jotsoma Village assisted the BRTF in clearing landslide debris on the Jostoma-Khonoma Road at Dzünarü (Dzüna river). The work began at 7:00 am and went on till 5:00 pm. They used their machineries at the landslide area on their own expenses, after noticing the inconveniences being faced by the nearby villages and the travellers.

The BRTF were reportedly facing difficulties in keeping the road motorable after the landslide that occurred on 23rd August 2024 due to shortage of machineries.

Initially when the National Highway 29 was forced to close for traffic due to landside at Dzüdza, Sechü-Zubza, the Jotsoma-Khonoma road was advised for commuters.

The BRTF maintains the Kohima-Jotsoma-Khonoma-Dzüleke-Poilwa-Benreu-onward, which would have been an alternative route for the travellers between Kohima and Dimapur, however, the landslide had blocked the road.
