A Solid Waste Management (SWM) awareness campaign was conducted at Muluole-1 Ward, Meluri Town, on September 29 with emphasis on proper waste segregation, responsible waste disposal and maintaining a clean environment.

Speaking during the campaign, Vice Chairman of the Meluri Town Council, Porhutho Ngouri, and Chairperson of Muluole-1 Ward, Thsuvila Nyuthe, stressed the importance of proper solid waste management and segregation at source. They sensitised the residents on the proper segregation of wet and dry waste and advised them to avoid indiscriminate disposal of waste.

The residents were also advised to minimise the use of single-use plastics and plastic water bottles. They were encouraged to construct compost pits at the household level for the proper management of wet waste.

The residents also interacted with the speakers and raised queries regarding solid waste management and proper waste segregation. Their doubts and concerns were addressed during the interaction.

The speakers urged the citizens to take individual responsibility for proper solid waste management and extend their cooperation towards keeping the ward clean. They emphasised that active participation and collective responsibility of citizens are essential for the welfare and cleanliness of the ward and Meluri Town as a whole.
