Start Unknown, Finish unforgettable: Vision Trinity’s 5th Women Basketball Tournament commence

The 5th edition of the Women Basketball Tournament organised by the Vision Trinity under the theme “Start Unknown,Finish unforgettable” commenced today at Loyola Higher Secondary School, Jakhama .

The inaugural was graced by Sashila Ozukum, Principal, Hope Academy as the Special Guest. In her speech, Ozukum mentioned that the objectives of this tournament are not merely commendable but deeply inspiring as it strives to promote women’s empowerment and hygiene through the medium of sports. “It is awe-inspiring to witness how sports can serve as a powerful catalyst for women’s empowerment, nurturing qualities such as confidence, discipline, and leadership. When women are encouraged to excel in sports, they are poised to excel in every facet of life,” asserted Ozukum.

This tournament serves as a crucial platform for women to showcase their prowess in the realm of sports, said Ozukum, and it is imperative to create opportunities where women can exhibit their athletic talents.

Delving further on local entrepreneurs, Ozukum stated that opportunities like this offers a spotlight for self-made entrepreneurs to exhibit their products. “And nurturing our local entrepreneurs is indispensable for the economic progress of our region, and this tournament bridges the gap between sports and business, nurturing the rich local talent pool,” stated the Educator.

Ozukum also highlighted that the tournament has been instrumental in producing gold medalists from Nagaland who represented Nagaland at the Senior National Tournament in Mizoram in 2022. “This serves as a testament to the remarkable talent within our region, and it is our duty to continue nurturing and developing it,” viewed Ozukum.

“Sports not only promote physical well-being but also instill the values of teamwork, determination, and perseverance,” added Ozukum who also expressed dedication towards supporting initiatives that foster the holistic development of our youth.

The Special Guest also commended the Vision Trinity Club for their relentless efforts in transforming the tournament into a reality as it symbolizes Nagaland’s unwavering commitment to the growth and advancement of women in sports.

Nunese Sale, President, Vision Trinity Club pronounced the welcome address while Hovithal Sothu, TAFMA Project Director unveiled the new trophy. The event was chaired by Tshekulhi Thopi, and an invocation was delivered by Loyala hr. sec school rector and principal, Rev.Fr. Pravin Solanki SJ.

Seven teams in total from Kohima, Zubza including a team from Shillong will be participating in this year’s Women Basketball Tournament. The team includes All Blacks, TMB, Loyola, Aces, Touchline Basketball Academy from Shillong, Orca and Japfu Christian College (JCC)

The winner of the Tournament will be awarded with a cash prize of Rs.30000, while the runner up will receive Rs. 15,000. The MVP will be awarded Rs. 3000. Additional prizes include the Most disciplined team and Best Team Jersey which will receive Sneakers worth Rs. 3000.

Following the inaugural program the first match was played between all Blacks and TMB.

The result of the matches on the first day were:

All Blacks 16 vs TMB 26,

TBA 37 vs Aces 18
