The inaugural program of State level Pre-Subroto cum Junior Football tournament 2024 organised by the Department of Youth Resources in collaboration with Nagaland Football Association (NFA) was held on June 5 at Indira Gandhi Stadium,Kohima.
Speaking at the inaugural, Benei M Lamthiu,MLA and NFA General Secretary said that everything start with small steps, exuding optimism that Nagaland will witness football progressing and developing at new heights.
Lamthiu highlighted the achievements made in the State to develop football in the state and the career opportunities that has emerged in recent years. “Gone are the days where we play football as a hobby. It has become a global industry,” said Lamthiu who encouraged young players to take the sport seriously. He also highlighted the many benefits of sports.
Assuring that the Nagaland Football Association are trying their best to develop football and its players in the state, the MLA mentioned that efforts have been initiated to level up the State league to create more professional player and create job opportunities to provide bigger platforms to the younger generation. Lamthiu requested the DYRS to stand with them as they have done in the past years to provide bigger platform of football for the younger generation.

It may be noted that this league was organised to Identify talents and team which will represent the state in upcoming competition.
It had been highlighted that The NFA and DYRS are also in talks to organise Women’s football league and hope it will be held soon.
13 teams will be participating in this year’s edition: Dimapur, Kohima, Mon,Phek, Peren , Longleng, Wokha , Tseminyu,Shamator ,Chumoukedima , Mokokchung , Kiphire , Zunheboto. Each district is represented by schools of each district.
The program was chaired by Director YRS Kethosituo Sekhose, and the welcome address by Anthony Ngullie. Zayiechütuo Suoho also delivered a special presentation.
