The State Level Youth Parliamentary Quiz Competition was held at the Administrative Training Institute (ATI), Kohima on May 1, 2026, witnessing participation of students from different districts.
Speaking as the special guest, Principal Secretary, Environment, Forest & Climate Change, Fisheries & Aquatic Resources and Parliamentary Affairs, Y Kikheto Sema, IAS said that students represent the future policymakers, representatives, and guardians of democracy. He highlighted that the initiative of the State Government aims to create a platform that goes beyond traditional academics and helps students understand the functioning of the Legislative Assembly and Parliament.
Emphasizing the importance of constitutional awareness, he stated that knowledge of the Constitution, legislative processes, and citizens’ rights and duties is essential for every individual. He noted that such quiz competitions help sharpen young minds on governance, lawmaking, and parliamentary practices.
Sema remarked that democracy thrives on active participation and is not a “spectator sport.” He encouraged participants to understand key parliamentary mechanisms such as the Lok Sabha, Rajya Sabha, Question Hour, and the process of passing bills, which ensure that the voice of the people is heard.
Urging students to look beyond winning, he said the quiz should be seen as an opportunity to understand the reasoning behind laws and develop logical thinking and consensus-building skills. He further described democracy as both a fundamental right and a collective responsibility that requires active engagement.
