AICC General Secretary and former union minister has said on Monday that there is a strong undercurrent in favour of the Congress Party in all the eight States in the Northeast where people are concerned for diversity of religion, caste, language and province which are under threat.

During a press conference at New Delhi, the Congress leader who had just returned after touring the North East also claimed that the people of the region have understood that only Congress can protect these diversities even though Congress is not in power in any of the eight states.

Responding to questions, Ramesh said that this Lok Sabha is more important than most because it will decide whether India will remain a liberal and republic democracy. He said that this election is about saving democracy, Constitution and protecting the constitutional provisions relating to secularism, social justice and the special provisions relating to the North East.

Jairam Ramesh also said that he is hopeful that the people of India “in a very silent way” will give a resounding verdict on 4th June 2024, in favour of the Congress Party and its allies in the INDIA bloc.

The Congress leader further remarked that when INDIA forms the government in New Delhi, all the regional parties that are now being controlled by the BJP will join Congress.
