In anticipation of the upcoming Khelo India University Games 2023 (Wrestling), set to take place at Kohima’s Indira Gandhi (IG) Stadium, a half marathon ignited the city’s enthusiasm on February 17.
The Khelo India University Games 2023 (Wrestling), will be held from February 22 to 26.
The half marathon held today, stretching from Phoolbari to High School Junction, served as a spirited prelude to the much-awaited sporting extravaganza, reported the DIPR. A total of 31 runners took part in the marathon.
T. Lanusenla Longkumer, Administrator of KMC, kicked off the marathon, underscoring the significance of the games for the entire northeastern region. Highlighting Nagaland’s role as the host state for wrestling events, Longkumer extended a warm invitation to witness the exhilarating bouts at IG Stadium, where universities from across the nation are expected to converge.

In the race, the winners emerged in two distinguished categories – Zerovi Resuh clinched the top spot in the female category, with Z. Livani Ezung and Pheangyu L. Konyak securing the second and third positions, respectively. In the male category, Vihuka Assumi claimed the coveted first place, while Peuhaulungsing and Sorito Yimchunger earned commendable second and third positions.
Acknowledging the athletes’ remarkable achievements, Administrator KMC bestowed certificates and cash prizes upon the deserving winners. The first-place finishers in both male and female categories received Rs. 5000/-, followed by Rs. 3000/- for the second position, and Rs. 2000/- for the third position.
Participants in the half marathon hailed from esteemed institutions including Don Bosco College, Mt. Olive College, Kohima College, the Youth Resource & Sports department, and KMC, collectively embodying the fervor and sportsmanship synonymous with the Khelo India spirit.
