Member of Parliament (Lok Sabha) from Nagaland, S Supongmeren Jamir, on Thursday urged the Government of India to immediately and transparently implement the Naga Political Agreements, stating that prolonged delays have created uncertainty and frustration among the Naga people.

Raising the matter under Rule 377 in the Lok Sabha, Jamir recalled that the Centre had signed two landmark agreements with Naga political groups—the Framework Agreement with the NSCN (IM) on August 3, 2015, and the Agreed Position with the Working Committee of the Naga National Political Groups (WC, NNPGs) on November 17, 2017.

He pointed out that 11 years have passed since the signing of the Framework Agreement and nearly nine years since the Agreed Position, yet both agreements remain unimplemented. He stated that the prolonged delay has created uncertainty and frustration among the Naga people.

Stating that the Agreements must now be translated into action, the MP appealed to the Prime Minister and the Union Home Minister to expedite the implementation process without further delay. He noted that the Government of India has repeatedly maintained that the negotiations have concluded, and therefore the focus should now shift to honouring the commitments through timely implementation.

Jamir also cautioned that any further delay could fuel public dissatisfaction and lead to the emergence of more aggrieved groups, thereby undermining the ongoing peace process.

Jamir further emphasized that whatever is implemented must be transparent, ensuring that the Naga people are fully informed and that the final settlement reflects the aspirations and interests of the Naga people.
