Tongtet Riju FC clinches title in 1st Takomeren Memorial Open Penalty Shootout

The inaugural Takomeren Memorial Open Penalty Shootout, organized by Jong Pung Zunga (The Shield Bearers), concluded successfully at the Imzuluba G.H.S Longsa football ground today. Tongtet Riju FC emerged as champions, while Imti FC secured the first runners-up position. Kipivo from PMC FC was named the ‘Best Keeper’ of the tournament, recognized for his exceptional goalkeeping skills.

A total of 20 teams participated in the event, with football enthusiasts gathering to cheer for their favorite teams.

The chief patron, Sosangtemba Lkr, the longest-living person from Longsa village at 107 years, graced the event. A WWII veteran and former captain of the Longsa village football team, Sosangtemba exhorted the players to embrace contact sports and revive the passion for football, both in the streets and on the pitch. He highlighted how football builds discipline, self-respect, and distinguishes real character in an evolving world.

The tournament not only paid tribute to Takomeren’s legacy but also served as a platform to foster camaraderie and encourage young players to engage actively in sports. It is committed to continuing its efforts to provide opportunities for youth to develop their skills, instill discipline, and promote sporting culture in the community.

The event concluded with prize distributions and a message of encouragement for the participants to continue nurturing their skills.
