Training on ‘Earth Observation and GIS in Water Resources Engineering and Management’ was held at Water Resources Department, Kohima on September 28. This two-week training is organised by Water Resources Department, Nagaland in collaboration with the National Institute of Hydrology, North Eastern Regional Centre Guwahati.

This training will provide critical spatial data, modelling frameworks, and monitoring tools essential for modern water resources engineering and management. The training will focus on Applications in Water Resources and Groundwater Management, Surface Water and Watershed Analysis, Hydrological Modelling and Disasters, Irrigation and Infrastructure Planning.

Chief Engineer, WRD, Er Thepfusalie Guozi in his keynote address acknowledge the National Institute of Hydrology, Guwahati and said that NIH has been a helper and mentor extending every possible help in the past till today. He also acknowledged the resource person who were in hybrid mode as well as the resource persons physically present.

He stated that Global water resources management is vital for the very survival of every inhabitant of this planet. Every time we think of global warming or any natural calamities on this planet, we should remember that we are all stakeholders. Every action has a wider impact on the global consequences and so every action needs to be more responsible and thoughtful, he added.

He also advised the trainees to make full use of this training and to avail the maximum information provided by the resource persons.

Resources person, Scientist B, NIH NERC, Siddharth Arora in his address acknowledged the department for inviting and arranging this cordial program. He said that this is the first, the very beginning of a very long collaboration between the two organizations, and believed that this collaboration will be beneficial to both the departments. He also encouraged all the participants to learn and extract the maximum out of it and assured that they will assist and resolve any doubts possible.

He also mentioned that they are all committed to train in a very proper format so that the trainees can use that knowledge in their routine work of the department. He said there has been a lot of incentive from the central government as well as the state governments to import the latest technologies for analysis and therefore they will demonstrate how to use it so that the department itself can undertake those studies along with the assistance of NIH in an independent way.
