Tuensang District Court Complex inaugurated

The District Court Complex Tuensang was inaugurated today by Justice Lanusangkum Jamir, the Chief Justice (Acting) of the Gauhati High Court (the High Court of Assam, Nagaland, Mizoram & Arunachal Pradesh.

The inaugural plague was also unveiled by the Chief Guest Justice Lanusangkum Jamir in the presence of Justice Kakheto Sema, Judge Gauhati high court.

Justice Lanusungkum Jamir, in his inaugural speech urged the public to put their faith in the judiciary system where they can redress their legitimate grievances. To ensure better justice delivery system, the Chief Guest highlighted the mandate to the speedy trial, adequacy of judicial infrastructures which is a prerequisite for reduction of pendency and back log of cases involved. Stressing on the need of establishment for adequacy of infrastructure, the Chief Guest stated that there is a vital link between the judiciary infrastructure and access to justice. He also updated the gathering on the resolution adopted by the Chief Justices Conference held April 2016, where it was decided that the Chief Justice must adopt proactive steps to identify the judiciary infrastructures, ensure timely completion of the projects of the court complexes, constitute a committee to monitor the project timely completions and to ascertain the coordination between the district official and decision authority of the state government for the development of the judicial infrastructures. The timely completion of the district court complex of Tuensang was a result of the guidelines of the Conference.

The Justice also stressed on modern infrastructure which will enable the judiciary to take advantage of new technologies and effective measures for justice delivery more efficient. The support and cooperation of the government and involvement of every stakeholders for a robust justice delivery system in Nagaland, was also highlighted.

Sungtiba Amer, Assistant Chief Engineer,AWD Nagaland, who delivered the Technical reports, mentioned that the project which commenced in April 2017 costed ₹ 672.59 Lakhs and was completed in November 2023. The building is a G+6 storey RCC structure with total Plinth area of 18,578 sq ft, informed Amer.

The requirement to revamp customary law was emphasised by T.N. Mannen, Advisor for the Department of Law & Justice and Land Revenue, where he warned about the irrelevance of such laws in future, without improvement.

N Longshithung Ezung, NJS, Principal District & Sessions Judge, Tuensang, delivered the welcome address, expressing the significance of the occasion.

Dignitaries in the legal and administrative set up -Chuba Yimchunger, President, Bar Association, Tuensang; Lithrongla T Rutsa, NCS, Deputy Commissioner Tuensang and R Ramakrishnan, IAS, Principal Secretary, Department of Law & Justice, delivered short speeches.

Yarenjungla Longkumer, NJS, Secretary (Judicial), Department of Law & Justice, delivered the vote of thanks, expressing gratitude for the support and cooperation that led to the successful completion of the project.

The inauguration ceremony was moderated by Kumdilong Kessen, NJS, Civil Judge (Sr. Division) Chief Judicial Magistrate, Longleng, Civil Judge (Sr. Division) JMFC, Tuensang (Additional Charge). The event commenced with an invocation prayer by L Ongmang, Pastor, Yungkük Baptist Church Tuensang town, followed by a special song from Lirili and Repetel.
