Two arrested after arms haul in Mokokchung, police recover AK rifles and pistols

Mokokchung Police arrested two persons and recovered a cache of country-made firearms and ammunition during routine checking at Tzsusapang sector under Mokokchung village on July 30 last.

According to police, the interception took place at around 1:40 a.m. on July 30, when a suspected Honda Amaze bearing registration number AS-07CB-6839 was stopped. The vehicle was reportedly travelling from Shamator via Chari Junction towards Dimapur.

During checking, police recovered two country-made AK rifles along with three magazines, three country-made .32 pistols with three magazines, and one live .32 round.

One person identified as Khumkiumong Yimkhiung, 42, son of Yimso, resident of Khumishe under Aghunato Police Station in Zunheboto district and presently residing at Naga United, Chumoukedima, was apprehended in connection with the recovery.

During further investigation, police arrested another accused, identified as Kone Mary, wife of Danii Lah and a resident of Saranmai in Senapati district, Manipur, from Kohima on August 3.

A criminal case has been registered at Police Station-I, Mokokchung, and further investigation is underway.
