Two landslide occurs on road connecting border villages in Kiphire

Two major land slides occurred last night due to heavy rainfall on the road connecting Pungro and Mimi. The location of landslides happened near Lophukhong village.

According to citizens, this the only road which connects border villages such as Mimi, Kaha, Betang and Hakkumate, and is critical for sustenance of these border villages.

Responding swiftly to the situation, Assam Rifles  Troops of Kiphire battalion from Mimi COB along with one excavator reached the site. The landslide caused heave deposits of debris, including boulders, mud, and uprooted trees, blocking the roadway entirely.

The JCB operator worked tirelessly as the troops focused on clearing smaller obstacles. At present, the team are reportedly  facing challenging situation because of the ongoing rain and threat of additional landslide. The team has cleared one landslide completely and the second landslide is currently being cleared.
