Two teenagers were killed after a Gypsy allegedly hit multiple vehicles before running over pedestrians at Veterinary Colony near an ATM booth in Burma Camp, Dimapur, on Saturday evening.

According to police, the accident occurred at around 7:45 p.m. on August 29, following which traffic personnel rushed to the spot for verification and enquiry.

Preliminary investigation revealed that a Gypsy bearing registration number NL07CA/5405, driven by 25-year-old Bumei Phom, hit a Royal Enfield motorcycle (AS09G 2663), a Maruti car (05C2173) and a pickup auto (NL07AA 5976). The vehicle subsequently ran over two pedestrians, leaving both seriously injured.

The victims were immediately shifted to hospital for treatment. However, both later succumbed to their injuries.

The deceased have been identified as Macagbou Charenamai (15), son of William Dim, originally from Thanglang under Senapati district of Manipur and residing at Burma Camp, Dimapur; and Gaisinlung Thangmei (17), son of Jaoguilung Thangmei, originally from Kohima Naga Bazar and residing at Naga Colony, Burma Camp, Dimapur.

Police said Charenamai succumbed to his injuries at District Hospital, Dimapur, while Thangmei died while undergoing treatment at Nikos Hospital, Dimapur.

The accused driver, Bumei Phom, was arrested in connection with the incident.

A case has been registered at East Police Station, Dimapur, vide Dimapur/East PS Case No. 182/2026, under Sections 281, 106(1), 324(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), read with Sections 184 and 185 of the Motor Vehicles Act. Further investigation is underway.
