The Department of Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Services has urged the public to take note of the existing arrangements for monitoring livestock and poultry entering Nagaland, stating that health examinations at Quarantine Check Posts (QCPs) are currently not operational due to a ban imposed by the State Government.

In a public clarification, Director of Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Services, Dr Kuokehebi Gwirie, said the department normally examines the health status of livestock and poultry entering the State through QCPs as a preventive measure against the introduction of infectious and contagious animal diseases.

The department is currently pursuing the matter with the Home Department to allow it to resume functioning at the QCPs in accordance with the Nagaland Prevention and Control of Infectious and Contagious Diseases in Animal Act, 2009 and the Check Post and Quarantine Camp, Manner of Inspection, etc. Rules, 2017.

At the same time, Dr Gwirie clarified that ante-mortem and post-mortem examinations at stockyards remain under the control of the municipalities.

He further stated that the issuance and cancellation of trade licences also fall under the jurisdiction of the municipalities in accordance with the Municipal Act, 2001.
