In commemoration of World Environment Day, Walen Zunga, a youth group in Longsa Village, has organized a tree plantation drive to address the pressing concerns of climate change and environmental degradation.
When asked about the motivation behind the initiative and its primary objectives, Walen Zunga emphasized the noticeable effects of global warming, which have become increasingly prevalent in the Mokokchung district, particularly in Longsa village. The recent drastic increase in atmospheric temperatures has prompted the youth group to take proactive steps in addressing this issue. The primary goal of the tree planting project is to raise awareness about the changing environmental situation and advocate for tree planting as an effective solution.
To ensure the sustainability and long-term care of the planted trees, Walen Zunga plans to involve youths of different age groups who will be assigned responsibilities in caring for the plantation under strict supervision.
