Dimapur Police have seized 19,760 bottles of suspected codeine-based cough syrup from a warehouse at Marwari Patti as part of the State government’s ongoing “War on Drugs” campaign.

Acting on credible intelligence, a team from the Sub-Urban Police Station raided a warehouse at House No. 23-B, Jain Temple Road, Marwari Patti, on the evening of August 25 under the supervision and guidance of the Commissioner of Police, Dimapur.

Police said the tenant of the warehouse failed to appear despite repeated calls. Subsequently, ACP (West) authorised and supervised the opening of the locked godown.

The search, conducted in the presence of independent local witnesses, was digitally documented through the e-Sakshya platform.

During the operation, police recovered 126 cartons containing suspected codeine-based cough syrup. Of these, 101 cartons contained 16,160 bottles of Bescod Cough Syrup, while another 25 cartons contained 3,600 bottles of EB-DYL Cough Syrup.

Several other unaccounted pharmaceutical products were also taken into safe custody for verification.

Following the recovery, a suo motu case has been registered at Sub-Urban Police Station under C/No. 046/26, invoking Section 21(C) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

Police said a detailed investigation is underway to identify the operators of the warehouse, trace the supply chain and dismantle the local distribution network.

Dimapur Police has appealed to the public and civil society organisations to share information regarding the sale or distribution of narcotic drugs with the nearest police station. The identity of informants will be kept confidential, police said.
