Wildlife Week Celebration 2023 held at Wokha District

Under the theme ‘Partnerships for Wildlife Conservation’, the Wildlife Week Celebration 2023 was commemorated in Wokha district on October 5. Jointly organized by the Wokha Forest Division and Doyang Plantation Division in collaboration with Ecowarriors Nagaland under the event was held at Lotha Hoho Council Hall Wokha.

Suman W M Sivachar, IFS, DFO, in his welcome address stated that Wildlife Week is conducted to celebrate the blessings of nature. Quoting on Genesis, he stressed that humans have been given the task to protect and nurture nature as true custodians. He also urged the members present in the programme to come together to protect wildlife as their in their survival lies our survival.

Joint organizers EcoWarriors (organizer founded under the initiatives of the DFO in 2018) in a short message briefed about the organization which was formed with an aim to work at the grassroot level to change the mind of the people in the field of wildlife preservation. “As a community, it is the duty of every individual to initiate steps like ban on hunting, poaching, planting of trees etc. We must not take it only as responsibility but also  for our survival,” stated the EcoWarriors.

The Wildlife Message was delivered by Special Invitee Kamdi Hemant Bhaskar, IFS, CF, who remarked that today children knows about globalization but they do not know about the vegetables that is growing in their garden. Furthermore, he also stated that ADHM syndrome has been affecting children today and that one way to curb this problem is exposure to nature and hobbies. He encouraged the institutions to continue to instill in the hearts of children about wildlife and nature. “Wildlife exists for ecological sustenance, therefore it is best to leave them without hurting them,” stated Bhaskar.

He also spoke briefly on wildlife laws and notified at wildlife crimes are non- bailable and so it is best not to involve in crime against nature.

Lansothung Lotha, Wokha Range Officer was  felicitated for his active commitment and service towards wildlife preservation from the Department. Prizes were also handed out to various competition warriors.

The programme was chaired by Grace Kikon, Forest Range Officer, Wokha while the vote of thanks was delivered by Siechutho Katiry, ACF, Wokha.
