Wokha COTPA flying squad team impose fines on 13 defaulters during raid

Wokha: Shop owners near educational institutions directed to abide by COTPA Act

The COTPA flying squad team led by OC, Wokha PS, along with the staff of National Tobacco Control Programme (NTCP), representatives from District Administration (DBs), Lotha Student’s Union led by its President Lirhonthung Kithan, Women Police personnel Wokha, conducted enforcement drive/raid on selling of tobacco products in and around educational institutions on the 27th of May 2024.

According to a DIPR report, the team penalised 13 (thirteen) defaulters (under COTPA Section 6A and 6B) for selling tobacco products and seized the tobacco products from the shops falling within the restricted areas. The defaulters were penalised (Violators under COTPA Sec 6B) with a fine of Rs. 200/- (two hundred).

The team conveyed that it will be frequently conducting such kind of raid in coming days also. Further shopkeepers were directed to abide by the COTPA Act, and warned that necessary legal action shall be initiated as per the provision of the Law. The seized tobacco products were destroyed the same day at the Police Station, Wokha premises in the presence of all the squad members.
