A personnel from Wokha Fire Station who got separated from his group while on duty to douse the massive forest fire around Vamkhosung Helipad was found on Wednesday morning around 10:00 am. The fireman was reported missing on Tuesday evening and a search and rescue operation was dispatch to find him.
In his statement, the personnel said that he got separated from his group and misinterpreted his directions, walking in the wrong direction. Realizing he was lost with no way out, he spent the night at the spot.
The fireman added that on Wednesday morning, he encountered a retired policeman who provided him with food and water before contacting the authorities. Following this, a rescue team was dispatched to retrieve him.
SDO (Civil) Wokha Nuhuta Tunyi said that the personnel was found at Tsenchio’s farm, approximately 8 kilometers from Yikhum village, around 9:30 to 10:00 am. He stated that due to the narrow road conditions, SDPO Wokha Sangthing Khiam and his team had to trek down to reach him. He was administered first aid on the spot before being taken to the District Hospital Wokha for further medical attention.
SDO (Civil) Tunyi also stated that the man was conscious at the time of rescue and had not sustained any major injuries, apart from a few minor scratches. A blood test was conducted at the hospital as part of his medical evaluation.
