Wokha  Forest Division and Doyang Plantation  Division organized an Awareness Programme cum Cleanliness and Plantation Drive as part of the Swabhav Swachhata – Sanskaar Swachhata initiative on October 2 at Doyang.

The event saw participation from 19 villages, with around 200 volunteers who planted a total of 400 saplings. The drive aimed to promote environmental conservation and cleanliness.

Head of NEEPCO’s Doyang project John Zeliang emphasized the importance of environmental protection, comparing the planet to a baby that needs constant care. He stressed that safeguarding the environment requires a lifelong commitment and urged the participants to make cleanliness a way of life. He highlighted that while campaigns like “Swachhata Hi Seva” culminate on October 2, the responsibility to protect the environment is ongoing and has no end date.

DFO Wokha, Suman Sivachar, spoke on the significance of cleanliness, urging everyone to maintain not only a clean environment but also clean thoughts and a clear conscience. He emphasized that cleanliness is a form of service to both society and the planet.

ACF Wokha, Elithung Odyuo, expressed gratitude to the volunteers  from all the villages and NEEPCO for their active participation in the drive. He highlighted the importance of environmental conservation and the need for humans and animals to coexist harmoniously. Odyuo noted that some trees and plants rely on animals for germination, and elephants, in particular, contribute to the growth of over 20 plant species through their dung. He urged the community to avoid hunting and focus on preserving the environment for future generations.
