WWI Memorial Monolith inaugurated during 63rd conference of Phiro Village Students’ Union cum First Youth Conclave

A WWI Memorial Monolith was inaugurated during the 63rd Phiro Village Students’ Union Conference cum First Youth Conclave held from 27th-28th December, 2024 at Wozhü Panka, Phiro Village. The two-day event marked a historic and vibrant gathering, blending the commemoration of the past with a vision for the future, Informed a press release.

Day One (63rd PVSU Conference) Highlights:

The event commenced with the inauguration of World War I memorial monolith, honouring the 28 individuals from Phiro Village who went to France in 1917 and returned in 1918 (among the 21st Naga Labour Crops) during the WWI. Zanbemo Lotha (IPS), Rtd. Additional Director of Police (GoN) unveiled the monolith, preceded by a prayer dedication from Rev. Thungjanshio Odyuo, Pastor Phiro Baptist Church. The monolith was sponsored by W. H. Patton, Retd. Additional Drugs Controller (GoN).

Khyolamo Tungoe, PVSU President welcomed the gathering, emphasizing the significance of the occasion. Wonchio Odyuo, Addl. Secretary, Finance Department (GoN) graced the event as the Chief Guest. A prayer of blessing for the students was led by Rev. A. Rapvuo Odyuo, Home Evangelist Phiro Baptist Church.

The day also celebrated excellence with the felicitation of Ten (10) achievers from various fields during the year 2024. The “Late Pandit Lisow Excellence Award” was conferred on two outstanding students. Engaging competitions, including painting, essay writing, and extempore speech, drew enthusiastic participation. The evening concluded with a fellowship program Hosted by PVSU and featuring representatives from the Phiro Village Youth Organisation (PVYO), Wokha Town Phiro Pongdenro Senchüm (WTPPS), Kohima Phiro Pongdenro Senchüm (KPPS), and Dimapur Phiro Pongdenro Senchüm (DPPS).

Day Two (First Youth Conclave) Highlights:

The first-ever Youth Conclave was the highlight on the second day, attended by youth organizations from Phiro (PVYO), Wokha (WTPPS), Kohima (KPPS), and Dimapur (DPPS).

Theme Speaker Dr. Mhabemo Ovung, Dermatologist at Zion Hospital, delivered an inspiring theme address on “Reigniting the Flame,” encouraging the youths to embrace their potential and becoming responsible citizens who contribute meaningfully to society.

Workshops providing practical insights on vital topics were conducted by three resource persons: “Entrepreneurship” by Lanthamo Tsopoe (The Bamboo Shoot Restaurant), “Exam Prospects” by B. R. Tungoe, co- founder The Aspire Academy and “Awareness on Mental Health” by Nzanrhoni Patton, Research Scholar, Royal Global University, Guwahati.

A prayer of blessing for the youth”was led by Rev. Thungjanshio Odyuo, Pastor Phiro Baptist Church. Adding a touch of tradition, indigenous games competitions were also held, captivating the attendees.

The two-day event concluded with a vibrant Musical Night, featuring stellar performances by Lapla Tungoe (Project Anonymous Band, Vocalist), Abigail Odyuo (Proprietor of Shofar Music Academy), Lonachen Patton (Singer & Song Writer), Nzanmongi Ovung (Singer & Song Writer), Ajanro Odyuo, Lopeno Odyuo, and Chonchibeni Odyuo.
