ZSU credits TR Zeliang for breakthrough with School Education as it calls off indefinite agitation

Peren: ZSU hopes School Education Dept will keep its commitments

The Zeliang Students’ Union, Nagaland has extended its gratitude to T.R. Zeliang, Deputy Chief Minister and in charge of Planning & Transformation and National Highway, for his timely intervention that led to the breakthrough with the Principal Director, Directorate of School Education. “We are really grateful to him for understanding the crux of our demands served to the Principal Director, Directorate of School Education, Nagaland: Kohima and giving justice to the deserving Schools”, it stated in a press release.

After nearly a month of indefinite closure of educational offices across Peren District in opposition of the transfer of Mathematics and Science teachers from Government schools in the district as part of the recent rationalization exercise undertaken by the School Education Department, the ZSU has called off its agitation from 4th November 2024.

The Union also thanked the Principal Director, DSE, for his assurance to look into its grievances and said “we strongly believe that whatever has been discussed and agreed will be honored in its true spirit.”

Further, the ZSU extended its gratitude to Hiazu Meru, NCS, Deputy Commissioner, Peren, for “his active involvement in our agitation as mediator” and the Education Department, Peren District, “for their cooperation and patience throughout our entire agitation.”

It also thanked Mpai Students’ Union, Punglwa Students’ Union, Tesen Students’ Union, Nkialwa Students’ Union, Tening Town Youth Organization and Kuki Students’ Organization, Nagaland “for their unflinching support during the peaceful agitation”. Furthermore, the ZSU appreciated all “who had contributed physically, morally and financially for the success of this peaceful agitation”.
