Zunheboto: 115 attend blood group checking camp

Zunheboto: Major Fernandaz said the blood testing camp was a small initiative to make people aware of their blood group and to help the medical and civil administrations

The 11th Assam Rifles in collaboration with the GBs of Zunheboto Town organised a blood group testing camp at Zunheboto Town Council’s office today.

The blood testing camp was led by Dr Chanchal Raj, Asst Commandant 11th Assam Rifles.

The officials informed that there were 115 attendees overall at today’s camp, out of which 65 were males, 47 females and 3 children.

Major Prince Joy Fernandaz, while speaking to Nagaland Tribune, said the Assam Rifles were always known as friends of the hill people and to incorporate the same, the 11th Battalion of Assam Rifles X7 factor and Inspector General North had taken the initiative to reach out to the people of Zunheboto Town and help them to know their blood groups and RH factor.

While highlighting the data figures, he said Zunheboto area has 17 villages and a population of approximately 30,000 while the entire district has 191 villages and a population of more than 40,000 as per the 2011 census. Out of which, he said, 30 percent of the population is still unaware of their blood group which is required in case of medical emergencies.

Major Fernandaz said the blood testing camp was just a small initiative to make people aware of their blood group and that this would enable the medical and civil administrations to keep the data bank ready of blood donors in case of any emergency.

Hevishe Muru, the GB of Old Town Colony, lauded the 11th Assan Rifles Commanding Officer and his staff for the initiative and said that it was the first of its kind in Zunheboto town.
