The Zeliangrong Youth Organization Nagaland (ZYON) has expressed deep resentment basing on complaints and witnesses against erring officials and teachers for neglecting their duties and responsibilities as government appointed officials.

The ZYON reminded that in any functioning society, it is imperative that government officials uphold their duty to serve the public interest.

“When these officials neglect their responsibilities, it not only undermines the trust of the people they are meant to serve but also hinders the progress and development of the community. It has been learned that some officials are not present at the office and despite repeated requests from various CSOs since in the past; they have utterly disregarded the appeals and are yet to promptly respond to,” stated the ZYON in a press release issued by its media cell on July 17.

The Organisation has also expressed concern over cases of teachers in government schools appointing proxy replacements. This, according to the Organization, has been done with mutual understanding along some village leaders, Town leaders. “The ZYON is taking this matter as a serious concern for the future of the students left in the hands of under-qualified proxy teachers and such bargain with their lives will never be considered,” warned the ZYON.

The Organisation asserted its stand against erring officials, stated that these officials should be held accountable “when they neglect their duties which they are paid for and also the locals that are in connivance with such officials shall be held equally responsible”.

Claiming that the neglect of duty is one of the most “egregious offences” any official can commit, the ZYON has sternly warned that these matters will not be overlooked and in an appropriate time, stringent action shall be taken against such erring officials as per the procedure. It further warned the locals who are hand in gloves in this matter shall also be booked and befitting punishment shall be given as per law.

“Our silence and patience should not be misconstrued as weakness and the ZYON hopes that this letter is taken seriously as an appeal and final warning,” asserted the organization, relaying that a surprise checking will be conducted for the wellbeing of our society.
