11 squads participate at WWII Peace Rally 2022

The WW II Peace Rally took place today on the 2nd day of the Hornbill Festival 2022. The rally is organised by Nagaland Adventures & Motor Sports Association (NAMSA) to commemorate the Battle of Kohima.

The rally was flagged off from Indra Gandhi Stadium, Kohima, and culminated at the Heritage Village Kisama. 11 squads participated in the rally including one squad from Thailand. The rally concluded with the prize distribution ceremony at WW II Museum Complex, Heritage Village, with Mmhonlumo Kikon, Advisor IT&C, NRE, Science & Technology as the special guest.

Speaking at the event, Kikon highlighted the participation and the sacrifices made by the Nagas during the Second World War and how the contribution of the Nagas was instrumental in tilting the outcome of the Battle of Kohima in favour of the Allied forces.

He also mentioned, in brief, the history of the Nagas and how they came to be under the rule of the British Forces after decades of conflict. Kikon concluded by paying tribute to all the Naga warriors who made the ultimate sacrifice during the Second World War as well as during the decade long conflict with the colonial forces.

Awards were also given out by the special guest for the following categories: Best Tourism Promotion Squad, Most Disciplined Squad, Best Uniformed Squad, Best Weaponry Squad, Best Maintained Jeep, and the Most Original Squad.

The chairperson of the prize distribution programme was Nitoshe Sheqi while Kuputo Shohe, advisor NAMSA, gave the introductory remarks.Tovi Choph, executive member, NAMSA, delivered the vote of thanks.
